solar wattgas charger
« on: August 15, 2008, 04:46:54 PM »
I read about the wattgas charger using microwave transformers.  My idea is to put 4 or 5 1.5w harbor freight solar battery chargers is series with a air conditioner fan capacitor.  will this desulfate batteries or just charge them. each panel puts out 22v max

Not sure how you intend to do it, but the Jerry Desulphator/Wattgas circuit needs AC input.  Solar panels make DC.

The battery would only charge until the cap is full.

And the cap will be charged to a high voltage, meaning it could hurt like heck if you touch the wrong places at the same time.

The Jerry pulser runs 120 through a cap and diodes, rectifies to 90vdc.  So I figured i might not need the transformers diodes and 120ac supply.

Once the cap is charged, the circuit will not do anything with solar (DC) input.

The circuit requires AC.

so i guess i should save my money for old microwaves instead of the hf panels

I think your talkin the water gas circuit 25 uf per amp It will either charge it or send it to the junk pile  . Jerry's circuit is here and it's a good flexable circuit a put a 5k pot in instead of the 1.3k to go from 1 sec to 300 milli sec

Thanks for the credit guys, but the circut that is 120 volt ac line connected is not mine.

However thats the circut I use with the microwave transformers. I take 2 microwave trannsformers tear them apart put them back together with just the 2 primary windings. This makes for a very good, very cheap isolation transformer.

I didn't like the idea of connecting the desulphator directly the the ac mains (shock hazard you know).

The circut with the photo couplers, large cap and 30 volt power supply is mine. However its not as good as the simple cap, bridge 120 vac unit.

I've been using the ac, cap pulse charger on me EV truck 3 years now. My current batteries have 2 years time now with the pulse charger on them fulltime.

The SG is high the electrolite is clear aand the plates are one black and one gray.

Speaking of the RE truck 2 days ago I took a 25 mile round trip in the E-truck.

When I got home I still had plenty of power left.

As far as using solar panels for desulphating/pulse chargin. The circut with the opto couplers and 555 timer would be the best.

The steady state DC from the pannels won't have a pulse for charging.

That's a shunt wound motor in your truck isn't it ?
