Best places to get solar panels?
« on: September 03, 2008, 11:34:53 AM »
In finland averige prize is 23$/watt.

The small 5W panel im after for is around 46$/watt in here.

Big 85W panels are around 10$/watt. Outrageous prizes in here!!!

I'm interested of any panel between 2-10W.

Just about any place that delivers to europe will do.

One thing to remember....the smaller the solar PV module, the more expensive it will be. If you want to pay the least amount of money for the largest wattage, then you must either buy larger modules, or buy in bulk. Thats just how the economics work out.

UK retail prices are ~USD10/Wp down to ~USD5/Wp for bigger panels/orders.

Have you tried the bigger UK and German suppliers?

For example, in the UK, http://www.energyenv.co.uk/ who do wholesale and retail I think.

2 to 10 Watt panels will cost you significantly more per Watt.

For larger panels these folks claim to ship Worldwide:  http://www.sunelec.com/

I'm not sure what it would work out to be with shipping, duty and VAT, but I'm betting you could get something to your door for a fraction of $23 a watt for larger panels.  I do not know of any good sources for the smaller panels other than maybe E-Bay, but there must be some, and someone here probably knows about them.  Rich

I found my used KC 120 watt panels on Ebay and paid 3.12 per watt.  I searched for quite some time until I found what I needed and at the price I considered reasonable.

Good luck with your search!

The problem.

Shipping a KC120 from USA to Finland would cost $500 with UPS.  DHL is more.  USPS won't do it.

Even with $500 shipping it's still $7.29/W.

The prices I see for 5 watt panels are stupidly high even in the US.

http://www.nextag.com/solar-panel-kit/search-html

Even Harbor Freight usually sells their 5 watt battery minder for $40 US. I have one, it's thin film and poorly made.

If you are going to ship from the US, you might as well get the folding type (less likely to break). This one is 5 watts and $32 US. The dealer has other folding panels, too, in their online store.

Suntech supplies good 10w panels for around $60/panel + shipping.  Shipping would probably make that $7-8/watt. Not great but better than most all of the smaller panels.
