Best way to insulate hot water drums?
« on: April 06, 2008, 01:21:48 AM »
I'm going to be putting between 5 and 10 55 gallon drums under my house for hot/cold water storage from various sources. I'm going to build a plywood box around the drums, and fill it with insulation. What would be the best CHEAP insulation I could use?

Some things I was thinking:

-Straw

-Dirt

-Sand

-Packing peanuts

-Newspaper

-Concrete?

Any other ideas? What would give me the most bang for my buck, and keep a bucket of water hottest the longest?

And this has what to do with making your electricity from scratch?
