thanks for the link . i've seen a few articals on these batteries. i may be mistaken but my understanding is the jars were robbed from the bagdad museum during the chaos of the fall of the city. and the looting  that ensued.  the conclusion from experts is that a team of profesionals with a specific shoping list swooped in and systematicly robbed some of the most precious artifacts.i hope i am mistaken and the jars still reside there as opposed to the private collection of some millionare,

in addition , 2000 years puts these jars at the birth of christ and i think these jars predate that by a long way. there are traces of civilization in the area that go back 4000 years .

on a lighter note , there is a tv programe "myth busters" that  recently did an experiment using these batteries as a model and sucessfuly electroplated some objects.

As I understand many of the artifacts were only hidden to protect them.  Yes the museum was looted.  Yes some things were taken.  It was not as good of a job as had been reported by the press. In fact it was said the press actually knew the musem had not been looted as heavy as they reported - BUT - it sounds more interesting - and they have that opportunity to knock the military.
