silly question about desulfation
« on: July 19, 2006, 07:18:34 AM »
I've read some stuff about battery sulfation, and from what I understand one way to attempt desulfation is to charge the battery at 25A, then apply a 25A load and repeat the cycle a few times. My question, albeit probably a pretty silly one, is how do you apply a 25A load? Do you just hook up some kind of heater or something that draws 25A, or is there a load tester of sorts you can buy?

I've seen load testers at places like Harbor Freight but they're all rated at 100A.

I'm probably missing something obvious, enlighten me please :)

Thanks,

Isaac

Most of those are Variable load testers, I believe, and use a dial to adjust the load. Quite worth it! I like my carbon pile load tester. Quite cheap on ebay...

A few smaller loads at the same time?

A car headlight draws about 5A, and an #1156 tail light bulb draws about 2.2A.

Maybe a 400~500W inverter powering 3, 100W 120V bulbs...
