24 volt retap
« on: September 15, 2006, 07:15:03 AM »
Got me a 24 volt forklift type battery.  Retapped it to 12 volts so

I can keep it charged this winter.  Bought a set of sacrifcial

jumper cables (4/0 wire size) cut to lenth and crimped on ends with coaxial

cable crimps.  Used hole saw with drill bit removed to detach

lead bars.  Use vacuum cleaner to keep lead shavings from getting inside

battery.

Yes, I dealt with mine exactly the same way.  Curious - where did you  get that?  Theres a guy on ebay with a few 24V batteries and Im interested... if they are any good.  He's not been responsive to email though...

I've got a huge 72V forklift battery that I tapped (exactly like you did) @48, and I have a useless 24V there sitting at the end.  I need another 24V set to run in series with that so I can double my current capacity - so if you have any leads for a 'bargain' on something that would be suitable I'd be very interested!

If I ever figure out what's in the box then maybe I can think outside of it.

Messed up cut the wrong lead bars. This battery has been a good education, each cell is 2.2volts.

Hi Dan, I received the battery from my Dad that he got

from a local industery where he's retired from.  Hope

to get another 24v or a 48v when one becomes availible.

Just for information perposes I hooked a car charger

24 hours ago.  Its about half charged now.  A couple

more days of charging it will be ready for winter.

One of the cell is weak.  I'm going to put together a

watgas desulferator circuit and maybe jerk it back to

life.
