Sams 6v Golf Cart Battery
« on: September 05, 2008, 01:44:27 PM »
Hi everyone, first post....  Love the site, tons of great information.  I have searched but cannot find the answers to my question.  Are the 6v Golf Cart batteries at Sams for $67 worth the money?  They are 220AH.  Also Should I build my system with 6v batteries?  I have a Wind genny going up this weekend and will be adding solar panels soon.  My Battery Bank will be about 6 feet from all of my equipment(inverters etc).  I am trying to decide how to purchase the batteries so any help would be great, 6v vs 12v.  Thank you.

Leon

In my town there is a Surplus/Blemished battery store. I went in there and asked for deep cycle batteries. They had a good selection at great prices. I walked out of there with a 135 amphour battery for about $45.oo total. It's been hooked up to a 45 watt solar for a year and working great.

The Sam's 6V golf cart batteries are the best bang for the buck in their class.

A pair for 12V (220AH total) will last more years than two 12V 110AH (220AH total) 'boat batteries', and cost a little less.

It does depend on the rest of the system if they are the best choice, but they will be better than '12V batteries'.

Yes.  Worth the $67.  Take old batteries for the core charge, if you have them to take.

The battery store I was talking about above would take anykind of battery for a core charge. Like a Emergency light battery in return for a monster battery.
