Will accept cash or am willing to consider a trade.

We have(8) Eight Interstate AMG Sealed 12 vdc battries. This batch of eight battries were purchased 10/1/2007 and have been used on our vacation cabin outside Nevada City. We paid over $250 each and will accept $155 each, $1,240.00 takes all. These are still in service and under constant Float charge.

You can get new Optima Yellow Top D34's for $199 and free ground shipping.

If you don't need AGM's, regular flooded marine batteries that size go for less than $100.

Interstate does make a nice battery, although I think they paid too much and are asking too much for them used.

The higher-than-average purchase price covers having a huge number of dealers and a pretty good warranty service, often no questions asked, as Interstate Dealers are rabidly defensive of their product line 'turf' for possible future sales. Often you find their products as OEM replacements in high end Boats, RV's and motor coaches just because their network is very extensive from 'following the money'.

Browsing Interstates web site showed that battery as the largest wheelchair battery offered, and noted Cycle life "AGM: 200-500". Also note the one-year full replacement warranty has expired on those; I found no clues how the prorated term (months) is applied to their AGM's.

The latest issue of Homepower Magazine has a battery guide article that includes Power Battery and Trojan sealed batteries of similar weight and ampacity, listed discharge cycles to depth of discharge (DOD) 20 percent were 1,900 and 1,200 respectively; and DOD 80 from 1,300 to 500 cycles.

If your batteries saw any hard usage during their year of service with their owners finding they didn't have enough capacity they could be already well along on the expected life cycles (even though the PDF claims "Longest cycle life available" without giving details).

If you have your heart set on these, and their charging scheme & usage checks out and there are no signs of venting or overheated terminals I might offer them $80-90 each at maximum. They've already had use of the best those particular batteries offer from everything I've read...

Thank you both, sounds like buying used batteries is always a huge gamble. I think I'll stick to my plan of just buying brand new golf cart batteries from Costco/Sams Club and see where battery tech goes in the next few years.

My first question to them would be, "Why are you selling batteries that you are currently be using?"

Maybe they want to replace with new ones and want to find some schmuck to buy their used ones. . .

Speaking of costco/Sams club, you can get 115ah deep cycles from Wal-Mart, at least in our area for $62 + core. Core is like $9 if you do not have one to give them. We are currently using 7 of these to power lights, smaller power tools, and run a couple of laptops all day/night. This works great so long as our 2x 3 panel arrays(of 18v 1.5a panels) sees sun for at least half of the day.

Eventually we are hoping to find a decent used/surplus forklift battery to replace our current bank.

I recently purchased a new 100AH AGM from an interstate battery distributor for $150!  $150 for used ones would be quite a disappointment.
