Maybe this should have gone into remote living I'm not sure, but we usually post here.

We have recently acquired a buildable 35 foot 5th wheel. I have gutted it and am on the way to rebuilding the inside now but will need batteries real soon.

We came accros this add (copied below)for batteries and wonder if these are workable for a 5th wheel home with solar and wind power. We would like your opinions.  We realize that there are variables- rate of consumption, and the like and you can't give anything specific on what we might need.  I know my welding and steel fab won't be done out of here but we are 2 people with a couple chihuahuas and looking to provide our own basic living power.

EnerSys Genesis XE70X Lead Acid Batteries. Nonspillable. Google that phone number and you get a lot of ads. Sounds like some kind of second hand dealer. A lot of the ads are for cars. It's a shame they are in California.

Thanks for your response.  We figured it was a resaler.  Batteries are really confusing.  Researching on any single brand is so time consuming.  We are looking to see if these might work for our RV.  The seller claims he sold 65 of them to a guy yesterday for use in a solar powered home.  The brands and types and prices are all over the place.  We have four of them reserved and input/information is appreciated.

thanks

Home RE battery banks aren't size and weight limited.  They tend to be sized to be discharged only a small fraction of capacity, for longer life and to cover long calm and/or overcast periods.  This also means they are charged and discharged slowly, which makes cells that don't like fast charging suitable, as well.

Trailer batteries tend to be used only occasionally.  Space and weight are at a premium, while (in a recreational rather than full-timer mode) number of duty cycles is low.  So they tend to be sized for lower capacity and deeper discharge.

Unless you're full-timing, recharge with R.E. at long stays rather than from engine power while towing, and have a storage compartment you can convert to hold several batteries, their suitability for home RE use is not necessarily an indicator for use in an RV.

Having said that:  The spec sheet is on line, very clear, and easy to find with a google search.  Figure out your use pattern and check it against the spec sheet.
