Freezing Water Supply

Fiddlehead44:
I do not have a well and get my water (washing, bathing and sink

from a nearby lake. The shore is shallow and I have to extend my

pipe out 200'. I have to go this far to be below the winter ice.

My pipe contains a heating wire that is thermostaticly controlled.

My problem is that this heater is a gigantic electric hog. Does anyone

have any ideas.
