Anybody Seriously Considered Net Metering?
« on: February 10, 2005, 11:29:10 PM »
Hi All:

After loooking over Bergey's newest R&D project, a 75kW unit, I started reading about their grid-tie setup.

It sounds a lot like the types of generators that you're building here.  They have a permanent magnet 3 phase alternator setup with stationary stator.  Blades attached to the magnet housing.

So they feed the power into their special "magic box" grid-tie inverter that converts the 3-phase variable freq / variable volt. AC from the windmill into 240AC / 60Hz for sale to the grid.

I'm wondering if a grid-tie box like that could be mated to a home-brew windmill like we're talking about here.  They will sell the grid-tie box for $8k (too much for me), but I'd love to figure out a cheap, but UL approved, way to start selling power back to the utility co.

What do you think?
