Matching the Alternator to the blades
« on: July 09, 2007, 10:32:51 PM »
I seems to me that a basic problem is matching the alternator output to the power curve of the windmill

since the power available in teh wind is a cube functiona nd the powere output odf the alternator is nearly linear the match up is a compromise

I was wondering if anyone has experimented with 'turning on' more stator coils as the wind speed (generator RPM) increases

It would seem that it would be easier to get a good match this way from low wind to high output

with all the smart peeps here I am guessing someone has already tried this

I would be interested to know how it worked and if it is worth it
