Iwind [CLOSED]
« on: August 16, 2008, 09:43:58 PM »
  http://www.iwind.com.tw/e-catalog/01/p1.htm

I have been contracted to build a wind generator. He originally wanted a VAWT! I did some research on this site. told him it wouldn't work and he paid me to build him one anyway (obviously it failed). And now he want's one of these i-wind things. It looks like a fancy POS to me but, I thought i would ask the guys in the know. So what do you think?? They look like they are designed to madden the unhelpful, but please give me some feedback?

Thank You

Apparently another new user who's parents neglected to teach manners to. [CLOSED]

Looks like a twisted "Lenz2".

See "windstuffnow".  Both his posts and his website.

(Jeeze Ed, I hope they paid you.)

That particular design, the "Gorlov" with 'wings' made for air, is the only VAWT I see having promise as build able and practical. It solves a lot of problems Sandia never figured out with millions of US taxpayers monies. They are also using what appears to be proper generators.

On page 5 of their site they give power output. I used the 2kW model as a check to see if their figures may be true. The 2kW model is 3m tall and has a 3m diameter. This is equivalent to an HAWT of 3.4m in diameter. The friendly 'bot' on the IRC channel calculated a 3.4m diameter HAWT in 44km/hr (12m/s) would output 1.6kW. It would only take a bit more efficiency for the 2kW claimed to be possible.

I would sure like to see one in person to gleam ideas and take a few measurements before I undertook to build a duplicate.

A light but very deadly kiss, in the super-extra fine print.

My preferred orifice does not exhibit that particular Kelvin color temperature.

The Lenz2 has been temporarily delayed, according to the windstuffnow site

The Lenz2 has been licienced to a company in Canada who will be producing a production version.   I still retain all rights to build and produce DIY kits and the like and the rights to revoke any licience within a given time period.

I take offence at being called incompetent, I'm only ignorant in some areas but I can be pretty slutty at times in the right company....

While I have tried several vawt designs for the turbine the only one that really seemed to do well was the Lenz2. If you check here and at Gizmo's website you will find several folks with a Lenz design up and running or with info on one that was up. Ed has so many irons in the fire/projects that he sometimes has a hard time getting back to finish up postings on his web site. Kind of like a cluttered desk is a sign of genius.

I have a problem with most of the news and ads on home wind units as there is no standard on how to show output. Output is often figured in gale force winds with almost 100 percent efficiency (some even claim to beat the Benz limit) but the normal is light to moderate winds and that is what the system needs to be designed to produce in. Vawts tend to be material intensive and most designs, due to losses from the blade traveling upwind, have a poor efficiency in output versus swept area.

Good luck

What's with calling Ed names?

His site is full of useful information, he gives all the info on building your own

Lenz2.

windansearat;

No need to let your poor upbringing show.

Careful who you sling names at.

You are no longer allowed to post to this web site. At least til you contact the front office and apologize.

I have closed this thread, too.

I will not allow you to garner more advise after that BS.

the Incompetent Ignorant Slut. this is set as his signature it is set in his user preferences to show up at the end of every one of his comments. it is very unlikely that it was directed at windstuff ed no mater how it appeared. but even at that we do not allow rude crude or lewd signatures and would normally get your preferences edited by an editor at the minimum and up to and including getting your posting privileges taken away if it was bad enough.
