hurricane and windmills
« on: September 04, 2004, 10:53:54 PM »
I understand that people living in Florida (with or without windmills) have other worries right now besides accessing this board, but if your power comes back on and the phone lines still work (or if you are by some miracle still connected) and you have a winhdmill I'd really like to know:

  • Whether your machine survived the storm undamaged or not
  • if it was damaged whether it is a write-off or reparable
  • and if it was damaged what kind of damage you sustained
  • what brand / model it is (or of course homebrew)
  • if you have any idea of the windspeed at which it failed
  • and how it failed
  • if it was running or shut down (electrically or mechanically) when the storm hit
  • what size rotor, furling mechanism (if any) you have
  • what power your machine produced at its peak during the storm (or until it got damaged)

Again, I realise you have other priorities right now, but this is a once-in-a-hundred-year storm (according to the news reports) and the kind of data you've got is invaluable.

And let's hope everyone out there makes it though this one alive.

Hmm, I just read that the total dimension of the storm is bigger than Texas, so it's bigger than entire France? Hmm... Definetly not the place to be.

Since the wind ranges from 170/200km/h, I don't think windmills would really like the wind...
