My first wind generator
« on: October 08, 2004, 10:17:26 AM »
This summer I spent a couple of weeks in Romanian Alps where I built my first wind generator using an Ametek30 motor.

Here are some pictures and some comments.

Nice effort there.  Did you get a lot of wind there.  I'm curious as to how many Watts you were able to generate with the Ametek motor.

On another topic, nobody has ever accused me a being a good webpage designer, but that dark grey font on a black background is devilishly hard to read.

Thanks for the reply.

I didn't make (yet) any measurements to find out how many watts was making.

That will be the next step.

About that dark gray on black background : where did you see it ? I was checking and I couldn't find any black background...Maybe it shows different in different browsers ? What kind of browser are you using ?

Thanks again,

Florin

Looks really good.

Which kinds of tools did you use

to make the propeller?

Which kind of airfoil did

you use?

Have you counted RPM during the use?

Very nice work!  I think the tail has fine visual proportion, and the blades are very well made.  Your website is nicely constructed, too.

For the propeller I used a hand-saw, an angle grinder like this one with high granularity sandpaper, and a palm sander like these ones

The airfoil is similar with this one and was designed using that spreadsheet.

No, I didn't count the RPM.

My browser is Mozilla Firefox 0.9.3

Here's what it looked like to me (with a little of the text highlighted for readability)

I tried it in Internet Explorer and it was fine.

You're blades look really nice, despite the knotholes.  I like the shape.

I also like the location.  It looks like a beautiful place to be.

I know I'm getting to far off topic here, but you can check your HTML files for validity by going to http://validator.w3.org  It couldn't process your 'location.html' file until I forced the character set to iso-8859-2 (central europe).

Here's the analysis:

http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2F69.194.245.17%2Fmorisca%2Flocation.html&charset=i
so-8859-2+%28Central+Europe%29

Hi Florin,

I couldn't get to your website - when I went to the link I saw a notice about being redirected but then nothing happened.

I'm very interested to see a wood sanding disk for an angle grinder - I've never seen/noticed these in the hardware shop but it should very interesting.

All the best,

Derek

Mine (page down load) came out OK.

But the movies (both) only had about 1/2 of a rotation and some 'jibberish' (garbage) sound. I'll write it off as SAE to metric conversion.

The mill is better than anything I have done, so...

   Great Job!

Thanks again, I know that checking with w3.org is a good practice, and i'll do it in the future. Probably I will modify these pages after the long week-end.

Hi Derek,

I'm sorry you couldn't get to the web site, please try again, I am sure that was something temporarily.

The wood sanding disk for an angle grinder is a disk made of plastic which replaces the metal cutting disk. On top of this disk you can put a sandpaper sheet with large glass granules, and here you go ! At 10000 RPM, that sandpaper is "eating" the wood.

If people view your page with AOL optimiser on dial-up, or other similar 'optimising' software, it will do the color switch. I have the same problem with my site.
