12' runs 440 RPM @ 37 MPH -- finally furls
« on: December 03, 2004, 12:13:17 AM »
We had gusts of up to 55 MPH here in the North East the other day. I finally saw the furling of the tail and may be set a little high at approx. 35 MPH wind and slightly over 400 rpm. It was very turbulant but enough steady wind at times to get good readings from my RS 232 connected multi- meter. 92 VAC @ 440 RPM (frequency checked) in 37 MPH wind with a small load of 100 watt floodlight. This is almost exactly what I had predicted from bench testing earlier. I plan to pre-heat water and just purchased a 48 volt heating element to experiment with my variable load controller. 12' diameter 3 blade at 440 RPM is quite a blur and exciting to know that carving those blades was well worth the effort. Updates to follow, thanks to everyone for all your help along the way, I'm already thinking bigger next time.  Dave B.
