how to ID pre REA windmill?
« on: April 20, 2005, 08:40:03 PM »
I have an old two blade Pre REA windmill that I would like to put into service.  It is a gear drive unit, and it pretty good sized.  I have no blades for it, and will have to find or make them.  I have no clue how long they need to be, and have searched the web without successs to identify it... any ideas where to look?  Thanks, I'm waisting power....

Posting a couple of pictures might lead to faster, more accurate responses.

Could be a 32 volt Wincharger, there are a variety of those still around.

Winchargers were 2 or 4 bladers in a variety of voltages and marketed under many name brand names. If Jacobs was top of the line (expensive), winco's were more for the common man (cost wise). The link below might be a giveaway- most winco's had an airbrake system, and blades were normally either 6 ft. diameter or 8 ft. When the wind really picks up, the airbrakes do tend to get loud disappating power.... possibly you'll find a model close to your find. Good luck on your quest!  Gary D.
