whatever you do decise to do, all you want is a rain-shed over it. Do not seal the motor (genny) against water. It will actually condense water in it and then it won't be able to get out again.
This is from experience of many years in the satellite industry. Lots of that equipment came sealed but got water in it anyway. Leave the seals out and it was never a problem again!!
Finally, some manufacturers leard that and started leaving things open. . .
There are some things that had to be sealed, but many things lasted longer unsealed, but just under a rain-shed.
