Find of the day
« on: August 30, 2005, 12:16:03 AM »
Got this gem on a barter for practically free!

(he's probably saying the same thing.)

I have not tested it yet but it should pump out some

major power.

It's a 5HP Baldor PM DC motor,180v, 24.5 amps,1750 rpm

The shaft is 1 1/8" dia.

Any thoughts?

I don't think it has permanent magnets.

Oh, now I see in their catalogue they do have one like this with PMs. We used to use very similar looking that weren't. Hopefully it's the newer one!

how big is that thing, approx weight?

i had a chance at a 20 hp 180 volt dc motor, but the thing must have been 300 lbs if it was an once. had to pass on that one

Yea it's about 150-200lbs.

It has PM (permenent magnet) on the name plate under type, also metal sticks to the

out side of the frame.

Any idea's on the size of prop it would be happy with?

Just a tip....

Don't use any RTV silicon to try and make it weather proof. Vapours from it lead to increased brush wear. And be gentle not to bump it around Baldors, Leasons and most motors of this type in general have the feild magnet glued in and it tends to get a brittle with age.

Man I wish I had that motor, it would make a bitchen electric buggy for my boy!
