12' flying @ 85' - photo
« on: May 28, 2006, 08:18:14 AM »
It's actually been a couple years working toward this day, what a blast. Still plenty to do with trenching, wiring etc. but for now I have it set up just for testing. I ran this 12' single phase w/laminates on the top tower section as a 10' test tower for nearly a year testing things out. I plan to preheat water with low voltage elements and no batteries. Series/parallel combination of the 18 coils outputs 12 VAC @ approx. 100 rpm. conservatively this should work out to be about a 1KW machine @ 350-400 rpm. More photos and updates to follow. Thank you to everyone who has contributed here and outside this board besides. Dave B.

It looks really beautiful.

What it your estimate of the average winds there

at your site?

Did you make even the tower by yourself?

Thanks for the compliments. It is a modified Rohn 55 tower with basically all new hardware. It's all set up for a larger machine on down the road so I didn't want to do the tower twice. I let it run up to 300 rpm yesterday controlling the load and everything seems very smooth. I had balanced the whole assembled unit minus the stator on the test tower before packing the new bearings, needed absolutely zero wind so that took a while for those conditions but certainly was worth it to have everything exactly the way it would be on top. Updates to follow, just wish there was more time to play. Thanks again to all,  Dave B.
