The new 10ft gennie
« on: June 28, 2006, 11:43:57 PM »
Well, here it is.. works great even with a 3/4"+ airgap

no word yet on the MEK treatment on the stator to correct the dogleg.

going to try 10ft blades tsr 8

dual rotors are 12" with 12 2x1x.5" n40's

9 coils 2 in hand #14 with 37 turns each

is it reasonable to expect 1kw from this machine?

I can't find info on tail weights, I was going to try 20lbs and see how that goes. is that also reasonable?

the tail boom is 5ft long

Thanks

Jamie

A real nice looking job! I really don't know about your tail question but maybe you could put some 2 inch plastic or fiberglass washers on the stator to help strengthen it up.I found out the hard way that the stator does move, just a bit.

I was wondering if your hub is made from a rearend car axle, cut off?

You do nice work.

Hi Ding123, thanks for the praise I learned from the school of hard knocks :)

the wheel hub is from a 1988 bonneville here in Canada. makes fabrication a snap.

only thing i don't like about this bearing is you can't change the bearings. mine is a bit stiff, it would be great if i could put new bearings in but it works nice.

thanks again,

jamie

good job..looks great...if its possible, take the back flange off the hub, and it will spin easier for you..alot of us take it off to reduce friction...with your tail, my 10' blade gennies have a tail i will guesstimate at 5' long also....if the genny sways back and forth and doesnt catch the wind and stay in it, then you may have to increase the tail length, or its weight, or both..not sure if it will pull a thousand watts or not..i have been offline for a bit so dont know what you have for magnets, but your coils are in line with some of danbs machines, which i think he did in fact pull 1000 watts...good luck on your project...pickster

Your machine looks really nice.

is it reasonable to expect 1kw from this machine?

If you'll compare it with

DanB's machines you'll

see that 1kW should be reasonable,

if the air gap isn't too bad.

You might try doing some measurements.

I think that doing it somehow in the real

world would help also some others.

You might fix a pulley on the alternator

and then use a machine to turn it

for charging a battery.
