CNN Heroes Help Make blueEnergy the CNN Heroes Viewers' Choice

CNN's Global Initiative "CNN Heroes" spotlights and celebrates the goodness of humankind by showcasing examples of ordinary people who have accomplished extraordinary deeds.  Mathias Craig (and blueEnergy) were selected as one of the 44 heroes profiled by this program for his efforts to bring micro-wind power technology to Nicaragua for rural electrification in remote parts of the country.

The CNN Heroes program culminates in a live global broadcast from the American Museum of Natural History in New York on Thursday, December 6 at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT).  The event is focused on honoring viewer-nominated heroes (as apposed to CNN profiled heroes like blueEnergy), however one CNN profiled hero - the Viewers' Choice - will receive separate recognition and a cash prize.

The public is being asked to vote for their favorite profiled heroes, by category, by visiting the CNN Heroes website.  Voting began in the first category on October 1st - blueEnergy's category of Community Crusader went online this Monday and voting will continue until 12 pm ET next Monday, the 29th of October.
Mathias Craig's and blueEnergy's work to apply micro-wind technology in the developing world has been enriched by the discussions on this board and have also contributed to the content of this board.  Your vote can help us continue this important work.

Please take a second out of your day to:

Vote for Mathias Craig and blueEnergy

[A note from DanB] Just a note to everyone - I think this posting is slightly vague.  For those who don't know what blue energy does or is - check out their website.  We met these folks at one of Hugh's workshops, they've taken the technology to the 3rd world and are doing the best they can to get power to some folks who otherwise have no chance.  Recently CNN did a significant story about their efforts.  By voting for them it gives them some much needed publicity

DanB, thanks for the support.  I agree I could have done a better job giving a little more background.  So here it is:

blueEnergy is a nonprofit organization that provides a low-cost, sustainable solution to the energy needs of marginalized communities through the construction, installation, and maintenance of hybrid wind and solar electric systems. blueEnergy manufactures wind turbines (base Piggott design w/ modification) and other key components locally to keep energy costs low, improve equipment serviceability, and create employment where it is desperately needed.  blueEnergy currently has 8 installations in 6 communities on the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua, serving 1,500 people.  For more information about blueEnergy, please visit our website.

We have had the great honor of working with Hugh Piggott, the Otherpower.com crew and Ian Woofenden at various Solar Energy International (SEI) workshops on Guemes Island, WA and in Costa Rica.

Cheers,

Mathias Craig

Executive Director

Mathias Craig (and blueEnergy) won the first round of voting in the "Community Crusader" category and is now in the final vote already underway, running until noon EST of November 26th.

blueEnergy has made a significant contribution to the field experience of Piggott style turbines and the prize money from the CNN vote would enable blueEnergy to continue working in partnership with other designers like Hugh Piggott and DanB to improve the turbine design.  This work will benefit everyone in this community that uses this technology.

Please take a moment each day to vote for Mathias Craig:
