Cortland NY - meeting of the minds
« on: March 10, 2008, 05:12:58 PM »
Yesterday Dean Williams of Cortland NY had a few of us folks from the area over to help out tearing down some equipment and organizing parts for future refference. Dean was a great host and with his electrical background was very helpful to us all with questions and ideas we all seemed to throw a him.

Dave Moller brought sections of the Gottingen 222 blade that he currently carves on his custom machine. Anthony brought an original stator that at a time had the smoke let out of it and Rick brought along a set of those fiberglass China Blades that many are familiar with here.

It was a great time and nice to get together for good conversation, food and to put the names to the faces. Many thanks to Dean for your hospitality, I hope we helped you out a bit anyway and to the rest of the guys it was great to meet you and discuss AE and our projects.

Here's a few photos : left to right Dave M., Rob, Stew, Anthony, Jack, Dean and Rick. I slipped into the other group shot.

Thanks again to Dean, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.  Dave B.

No to get to the real snow you would have to drive about 40 miles North of Cortland.

I'm loving this weather -- the storms keep missing us mostly to the North and South. The last one was to the West.

We got it as we usually do here in Western NY off the lake. I had my doubts the night before but the ride kept getting better the further East we went. I can't wait for more Spring like weather, it won't be long before my 18' is back up and flying. Dave B.

Wow! I didn't know I lived so close to all you guys. I work at Pall in Cortland but live in East Freetown. I'm currently working on a Listeroid CHP and would love to share ideas, keep me posted on future events, JimB.

Jim,

you don't have an email addy listed in your profile, so we can't send you notes offline

Locally in Endicott area, BirdmanJack has a website with local contacts and info:

http://www.nywindgenny.com/

he is the fuzzy face third from right in the picture ...I have the Einstein hair

OT-- general commentary:

in those pictures you can see a few shots of Rick's Chinese blades ...

IMHO, they were submarginal in quality ...Jack got his from the second dealer on eBay in Texas ....much superior, so find out who is selling which ones before you order any

Wow I didn't know there were so many folks around Cortland that are here. Please keep me posted as well when you folks are planning to meet. I live in Cortland as well. New mill in the works - (16) 1 x 2 x 3/4 N50 per rotor (done), (12) coils 3 phase - 4 coils / phase - 2 in hand #15, 44 turns. Shooting for 48v 1.5KW with 10' swept area.

Also have a 25hp motor coming apart for rewire and skew - don't have a clue what this will do in the end, and it's 167 lbs for the motor alone. Would love to stick that up in the air some day, but that's another story.

WP,

I see that you had responded to my old post on welding pipe towers.

I just checked your "files" and all I see from wind power is axial generator stuff and battery banks.

Why not post some pics and/or diagrams/specs of your tower and genny plans?

I hope that your 10 footer is just a "starter", because in our area ...you won't get very much juice out of it ....IMHO, Dave B's 18 footer is where you should be looking and those blades that Dave Moller are carving for him are sweet.
