Dayton with cap Starter as conversion?
« on: February 02, 2009, 11:24:23 PM »
Hi I'm a newbie to posting on here but I have been reading for a couple of years. All the questions I have had I have been able find but this one. I am new to the AC induction conversion and I want to attempt it. I have a dayton 3ph 115 1hp 1725rpm motor which looks good from what I see. It has a capacitor start, will it still be ok to use and if I do what do I do with the wires? Thanks.

It would be fine.

I wouldn't put a whole lot of money into it, but conversions are a cheap project anyway.

A 3 phase would be better.  A 6 pole would be better.

But it sure would be great for a first project!

The wiring will be the same as a garbogen.  Piece of cake.

It is a 3 phase. I'll do some research on garbogen. Thanks

I took the 3ph as 3hp, because of the 115.  Maybe that's 240?

Cap start 3-ph?

Something isn't correct, or it is an unusual motor.

If it is 3-ph, then just need to decide Star (AKA wye or Y), or Jerry Rig (version of Delta).  Maybe split each phase like a garbogen splits a coil set.

That is after magnets are in it.

 If it's 3ph it wouldn't have a start winding.Try looking for a 3phase motor around 2hp.

 My opinion

yeah I don't know why I thought 3ph. It's a single phase 115/208-230 volts. should I still go for it and make a gennie or put it back together. I have it and don't need it so I'm thinking I'll go for it. However the local motor rewind shop is right down the road if I need a three phase. Thanks guys

Yes I will scrap the single phase motor. I went to the local rewind shop and they gave me a syncronous 2.95 hp 3 phase from there boneyard. It looks like something on the rotor failed( little spikes on the end of each side) but the windings look ok. I guess I will have to check each one for cont. My next move is to find out what all this chinese wording on the wires are. Has anybody herd of a sante brand motor? thanks all.
