Ametek 40v motors
« on: June 30, 2004, 05:04:38 PM »
Have been offered an Ametek 40v motor for windgenerator. I know some of these are good and some not. Does anyone have any info on type/suitability.

Motor is labelled 011196F6      Rev G  01A (E56617) 116870-01 40VDC

Motor dia is 100mm (just less than 4")

Length is 125mm  (just less than 5")

Shaft dia is 16mm (about 5/8")

Length is 37mm   (a little less than 1 1/2")

Would love some inf as cost ofshipping to Australia is more than motoer cost. I would hate to get the wrong one.

Thanks.

Robert

in general you can pull 10-30amps plus from these little dynamo's.....

very sweet good wind farm potentual.

could be my experience has been with different motors...

but I've tested some, and in the past built lots of little wind turbines from them, and  once hooked one to a gas engine thinking it'd make a cool battery charger.

I'd say 0-15 amps, and anytyhing much over 10 for a sustained period of time will burn them up.

On the gas engine, I was using the larger version (a 7" long case vs 5" long), I think it was rated 40 volts (and these ones are definitely more powerful than the smaller ones)... at 10 amps output it quickly got HOT.

I've never seen 30 amps from one, but I guess in extreme winds I've seen upwards of 20, but it wouldnt do that for long.

I think they make real nice wind turbines, but I'd not expect average outputs much more than 50 watts with peaks of perhaps 150.

If I ever figure out what's in the box then maybe I can think outside of it.

armcroft;

I did somewhat extensive rpm to output tests on 30 and 40 volt tape drive motors, you can see that over in my Diary on them:

Be sure to read the comments since some of the info was posted in there.

Basically they "work" but don't expect to get much real power from them.

Cheers.

Robert:

It seems that you are in Australia and if so, it is better for you to get a SmartDrive motor that is a brushless motor capable of producing more than 600 watts at 800 RPM, also the windings can easily be reconnected to get the voltages ranges you desired at the RPM you want.

This motor is being used in cloth washers made by Fisher and Paykel and you may buy one washer damaged spending a few dollars.

Go to : www.ecoinn.co.nz for further information.

This is a good motor that can. EASILY, be converted to a brushless PMA, ( 3 phases ).

I have 3 wire sizes : 100, 80 & 60 so you can generate different voltages and power levels.

If you need more info, email direct to me nando37-at-comcast-dot-net.

I have some but I am in USA.
