4 brushes on DC-motor?
« on: February 02, 2005, 12:19:18 PM »
Hello  from  Denmark.

This is my first posting, after i have been reading for several

months, and now i just must make some little windmill.

I have this DC-motor in the pic., i know what to do with it exept

for the 4 brushes. Do i just use the two who gives the highest

output, or is there someone out there, who knows this kind of motor.

I just love this board, and i'm very impressed by your enthusiasm.

That motor is likely a series wound motor.  Likely, you won't get much power from it since there is no current to excite the field until power is applied to it bny some outside source.

Others may have more information . . .

Hay Hassa,

I am very pleased to meet you from Denmark, its nice to hear that you read the board. I am not an expert, but in your picture its mentioned that the magnets have been substituted with a rubber round!! This is a bit not sure to understand. If no magnets no power!! May be I am wrong and understood wrong. I am from Denmark too I would like to say hellow to you. So you may ring to me . 54875075! I have never made a wind turbine myself but I am going to. I will be attaending Hugs workshop course in the near future!

Kind Regards!

Leonard.

Hi Doug.

It has got magnets, 24 round ones which you can see from the

outside (strange - i know!!), and it makes 1 or 2 amps when i spin it by hand.

I'm just confused about the  4  brushes.

It will probably make 20 watts the most, but thats fine for a start.

This looks like a 4 pole permanent magnet motor.

The brushes need to be joined diagonally if they are not already linked.

One diagonal pair will be one connection and the other pair will be the other.

Now that I am typing this I can't see your diagram but if I remember rightly you join A to A as one lead and B to B as the other.
