What tower hieght in forest?
« on: December 19, 2005, 04:01:10 PM »
  Hello all

Got a repeat question, I read keep gen 30' higher than any obstruction

closer than 300'.  So if I'm in the deep woods, all 45' trees for miles and

mile [terrain almost flat], then does tower have too be 75' high??

Woow ,   hope not.  The tree canopy is same level for miles all direction.

Well anyway  please feel free to shoot an answer.  Thanks

It will be cheaper and easier to build a 75

foot tower and put a 12ft windmill than to build

a shorter heavier tower 45 foot for a 24 foot

windmill or even bigger to get almost the same amount of power....Might be way off in my comparisons....as it's just what I've concluded

from what I've read from knowledgeable people.

Probably not what you want to hear.

Yes 75' at least would be decent. Any lover than that I imagine would lower your efficiency greatly. An 80 ft tower isnt all the much harder than 40 ft. You have to do all the same things, just a little more of each. :-|

I thought I read 50 feet, but whatever it is remember thats from the lowest blade tip, NOT the hub.

Check out this story. About halfway down the page is some discussion and pictures of living trees that are being used as towers.
