I built an exact copy of the Otherpower 10' turbine. The tail boom is 5' long and the tail is just a hair under 6 square feet of 3/8 exterior grade plywood. It works perfectly.

For a 10' machine I usually make the tail 5' long.  The tail itself is about 6 square feet usually-  Id not go smaller than that unless the tail were longer.

I normally use 1/4" thick baltic birch for the tail.  This is a real lightweight setup, it furls quite early.  Extending the tail another 6" or so wouldn't hurt - or using 3/8" ply would be fine.

If I ever figure out what's in the box then maybe I can think outside of it.
