Lakota noise compared to Air 403x
« on: April 03, 2006, 03:46:14 PM »
I have an Air 403x on a 47' foot tower.  The noise level is unbearable with winds above 80kmh, which we get about ten to twelve times a year (Prince Edward Island, Canada).  According to the wind maps for this area, we are 6.5 metres per second on average.  I would like to put up a Lakota.

Is there any indication that the Lakota is any quieter than the 403?

I am on two acres and only have one neighbour who has expressed concern about me putting up a larger genny.

Thanks in advance.

Hi pepperhead1963.

I own and fly a SW-403. I fly it at my retail shop located in an industrial part of town.

I did fly at my home. The noise was so bad there my neighbors complained. I live on a 1 acer plot most of my neighbors have 1 acer or more. Even though the closest house is several hundred feet away the noise was very anoying to them.

I fly a Lakota both at home and at my store now, even in the strongest winds it hard to tell it there. Lakota pride itselft on the quite blades. I terms of power output. The 403 is a joke compaired to the Lakota. I've seen near 180 amps from the Lakota in strong winds. As far as I'm concerned its the best 7ft comercial wind genny available.

BTW I'm also a Lakota dealer but thats not why I praise it so highly. I became a Lokta dealer because its a awsome machine. I've also used the Lakota blades on my home built gennys.

E-mail me for priceing.

I'm in Brackley, near Vacationland.

I was looking at some of your posts, looks like you build stuff.  You familiar with Stephen at renewable lifestyles?

I just emailed you info74@otherpower.com for prices.

I will be combining the Lakota with 600 watts of solar.  I have a Solar Boost 50 as well.  The genny would compliment the solar given the winds out here.  My four year old U.S Battery GC225's are on their fifth year, so I will be replacing them with four Surrette (S530's).

Thanks for the review of the Lakota, I've heard nothing but good about it so far, I just can't believe the performance for the 37lb weight, compared to the heavier Bergey XL-1.  Not even going near the new Whisper 100 series, after they yanked the H-40..

hi peperhead..just a small note about buying batteries..have you ever thought of buying used batteries from the battery store?? any fire dept., police dept., casino etc, have backup battery banks...they trade them in every 2 years or so,...they are always kept up, in a heated room, and hardly used(if at all)...i pay scrap prices for these batteries and you can buy large amounts of them usually..this is nice as they are all the same strength..i bought 14 batteries last year and they work fantastic...i have 1400 amp hours of power and i only need 7 amp hours a day..this means i never work them hard and i am real happy with their performance..oh,and the best part is they only cost me $15 Canadian which is way better than $100 or more...good luck with your project...good post....pickster

photo shows aluminum wire, but i changed it to copper shorly after photo was taken :)

Where is live is a small market for such used batteries, my only choice was 185ah AGM type from a TELCO, but given the low capacity I would need to hook them up in parallel for the desired AH, which I'm told is a no-no for more than 4 batteries. vis-a-vis if one starts to fade prematurely

Plus, I am in a position to afford new. ;)

Been using these going on 4 years now. 8 perelell then sires with the other 8 perelell. Works great no problems. plus 2 more out of site.

Also one of our show and demo vans has 22 batteries in perelell several years now. Not even a hint of any problems.

jerry, those look suspiciously like Concorde aircraft batteries.....

Gave me an interesting thought, I had not considered getting the retired ones from the helicopters.

Hi Rob.

Yes thats what they are. FAA won't let these batteries stay in the aircraft to long. So they are removed with plenty of life and they seem to be of ecceptional quality.

I recieved them used at a very good price. They preform very well. This is my 48 volt home bank. I've got a 3500 watt sinewave inverter connected to them.

Anyway another battery source to look at.

Actually Jerry, I just picked up 4 RG390E yesterday 24V 28AH.

I have checked with the Avionics dept and found that the issue is this.

The Batt can live in the Helicopter for 600 flight hours, then it comes due for a capacity check. This cannot be done at most of our field bases. It costs within %10 of the price of a new battery to have the old battery shipped to Concarde for testing, have it tested, and return shipped.  Add in the chence of failing the test.

So, long story short we order new batteries every 600 flight hours.

So after getting a few examples in my grubby fists, I am now emailing all of my companies bases to try and get all of the removed batteries that they have not disposed of.

Now I have 6 RG-355.

I guess I am going to end up setting up 2 different battery banks.

How did you end up connecting to them, I have looked for those connectors, and can only see $75 and up.
