My Yaw bearing idea
« on: May 06, 2006, 08:12:27 AM »
May have been done before, don't know.

I use bicycle front wheel hubs, as a good strong adjustable yaw bearing, one of the flanges can be reomoved, either with a hacksaw and file or spun off on a lathe.

The hub fits nicely into a 2" scaffold pole and can be retained using 3 or more screws.

Should take a considerable load.

Just realised, why images are being streched on this board- I had to change the Html code for the image width from 80% down to about 30%, for it to display properly.

Nice!

I just picked up a very small bike from dump last week.

Was looking more at the crank hub n sprocket.

Could you post a few more pic's?

Maybe taken apart?

Also where do the wires enter the pole?

:)

Hi coldspot,

looks like we are doing similar work, judging by your past postings.

I have just arranged to have an ametek 30vdc motor be shipped from the U.S to the U.K.

And i am fabricating a frame, like this one - good website btw.

Here is another picture of my bike yaw hub idea.

This shows me using 2 hubs, one inside the tube, and the other testing a new prop design. They both have one of the flanges removed. 3 threads were tapped 1/4" on the tube and bolts were used to hold the vertical hub tight.

Should be ideal for the ametek generator - Crank hubs might be a bit more difficult to accomodate.

Regards.
