You have a 5 wire stepper. They have issues. None are in phase.

That is half the reason I made the 'K' LED windmill. To explain it. Its all in there.


Get 8 LEDs and connect them up. You can SEE what is happening and when.

Can I use them in series if I use diodes? My friend also has a 5 wire stepper and he used some successfully. How successfully I dont know.

To put them in series you'll need to rectify (full wave) each phase seperately with capacitors across each rectifier and then connect the rectifier outputs in series.  Depending on the current you'll pull in your load, the capacitors should be 500uf or more each.
