Chinese VAWT's
« on: August 15, 2006, 12:50:17 AM »
Just wondering if anyone has had experience with these products

http://www.sentex.net/~sxing/generator/generator.htm

http://s93480190.onlinehome.us/wentao/WTGs.htm

and http://www.chinabestproducts.com

click on "Products" and then "Wind Turbine Generator"

The VAWT's look interesting and well priced.

Those little copycats.

The only problems are their rotor design will create alot of drag in low winds and wouldnt want to be that tower in high winds.

But where all in this together.

Hi vawtman, I am noticing that the VAWT companies are putting quite a few blades on their turbines. Solwind went from 2 to 4 blades, I emailed them a question about it but as usual they did not respond to me. Now I see this Chinese VAWTs and they have 5 blades on some and 4 blades on the real big one. I suspect this is for better self-starting but nontheless it is an interesting trend. Any thoughts?

Hi Reg

i had email contact with Peter Webb(solwind)last winter about interest he had with blade design.Told him who i was here.Nice guy.Sent plans not sure if they made it that far,New Zealand.

More than 2blades will help with balance and furling.I guess like Hawt.

 Im goin with 4(quad bar).

Its not so much for selfstarting.Thats not a problem.

Well yesterday vawts didnt work.Could you go into more detail on this?

Apparantly they claim the vawts can withstand higher windspeeds than their counterparts.Agreed with a strong base.

The methods of extracting power are still hidden. Not for long.

 Lets keep thinkin Edaddy Thanks

hi vawtman.

that comment was my attempt at sarcasm.

it seems when anyone posts a story about vawts people pounce on them and say they wont't work . i notice they usually refer to sandia labs efforts etc.

zzzzzz( got to be the dullest documents in the world)zzzzz.

when i see manufacturers advertiseing working vawts it just makes me want to try harder.

so today i need to go to the machine shop and see if they have got around to doing my stuff yet.(i might have to beg).

VAWTs don't work.

Never got a ma out of mine.

Car alternators are great, or they wouldn't put them on so many cars.

Coffee is great too, or I wouldn't drink so much of it.

Well, it didn't work, even after I added the second coffee can.

So the problem was obviously the alternator, so I changed the 37A model to a 185A.

Still nothing.

Obviously the coffee cans were faulty, so I changed them to cans from a premium blend.

STILL Nothing!

Therefore, I can say beyond any shadow of a doubt,

VAWTs don't work.  ;)

Sound familiar?

Really, my attempts at 'fancy' VAWTs were complete failures.  If you saw them, you'd know why!

Ghurd,

Why all that negativity?

Instead of being part of the problem, be part of the solution. Instead of saying 'it doesn't work', find out ways to make it work! If all the great minds like Tesla, Edison and Bell were thinking like you, we'd still be reading books by candlelight.

Remember, you gotta think outside of the box!

Or maybe your VAWTs don't work because they need more than duct tape & hotglue to keep them together? Just a theory....

Ok, I'm getting a cramp in my tongue now, I'll take it out of my cheek.

"Fancy VAWTs" are still a mystery to me.

Yes, I did read whatever it is that I should have read.

My hat's off to the functioning 'fancy' VAWT guys.  Good job!

Peter,

Only for Peter.  A 37Kb waste of time for anyone else.

"If you saw them, you'd know why!"

I really thought it would turn. Just turn. Unloaded.

Jeeze...  Ed's with 1 blade will even go up wind!

BTW, Ed did tell me what was wrong.  (thanks Ed!)

Almost everything.   :(

So I have to ask.. Has anyone on this board designed/made an actual working/generating VAWT? I'm not interested in toys, but something in the 1kW range.

I would like to build one but dont have time to research/design from grass-roots.

Yes. They have.

The 'Grass Roots' you refere to is cutting edge.

I am 100% sure more than one patent has been stolen from people here.

Hi Spacejunk

I remember that posting and i think i replied (those little copycats).

I need to lay low for awhile until i prove my thoughts.

Ill be your reseach/design grassroots guy.

1kw is easy but Ronb(wysasdag)or whatever), wants 2kw and thats the goal i set for myself.

I should have the alt done soon.12pl 36coil.

Hello Vawtman,

I look forward to seeing the result and builing one when I get time.

I set 1kW as a rough value, 2kw would be great, 3 even better.

The main requirements are that it starts in low wind and generates it rated power at a lower wind speed than a Hawt generally does. And noise is an issue also.

Its efficiency at high wind will thus not be important.

Maybe I ask too much...so good "luck" with the design, hope to hear more soon.
