Have you seen this little turbine?

Check out the video and the claims. I have to wonder how they did their math.

Saw this posted on another board and decided it was worth sharing.

Yes that comes back every now and then. Nice idea as a toy.

I pretty much draw the line in turbine morphing at no moving parts  . If you had some huge unit you might get away with some moving turbine elements but in excess 200 - 300 rpm a unit is going to need too much maintenance and supervision .

What would the vibration be on this? All the wind force on one side.

It's a piece of junk ... a typical savonius (S rotor) will do a better job than that unit.

It might not be total junk if it had a very wide diameter and very shallow height with many flopping blades and clean strong winds.

In other words your right but no vawts are junk they try their darndest to spin till you throw them out.

P.s. Powerbouy did you ever follow through with that design awhile back if i remember right wasnt it sorta the same principle.

You're right ... my words were not choosen wisely. It also did not suit me well to diss that unit the way I did. My coworker built a similar unit using hinged fan-vents. It turned and worked with 20-30 RPM in a strong wind. Lots of flapping noise though ...

Your initial reply was pretty spot on. This mill and the designer has been discussed many times before. If you look around that site you'll find airplanes that don't need fuel and boats that act like over unity devices. The designer doesn't understand the simplest of physics and his explanations as to why this design makes sense are more comical than anything else.
