More on my 1hp conversion...
« on: September 28, 2006, 07:09:36 PM »
Here is what i have come up with for a layout of rotor:

3.5" diameter (outside) 3.75" length ( i shorten this by 1/4" to condence the magnet inside the coil area)

here is a map of the outer shell of the rotor

magnet map 2

I think i will go with 3/8" magnets, so i can pack them in tigher, and leave more space between the poles. the skew on this map is just a guestimate, i still have to measure it out.

One question i have for the masses is: 3/8" deep magnets or 1/4" deep?

i have found CHEAP 1/4" deep magnets on ebay.  and 6 poles of 17 mangets gives 102 magnets: 3/8" x 1/4" =  5.63in3 of material....this should be sufficiant for a 500-750 watt system, no?

if i use 3/8" deep mags, i would have 16.9in3, that seems way overkill fora 1hp motor, and lending to cogging. Opinions?

Refigure the 1/4" deep mag total cubic inch.

wow.... silly mistake on my part...thanks for pointing it out...

the 1/4" deep mags would give me 2.816in3 and the 3/8" deep would give 4.22in3..

i hate to stir up this debate, but is 4.22in3 enought to generate 500-700 watts?
