F&P Torque calculations ? can anyone help?
« on: November 20, 2006, 09:58:10 PM »
Hi All..

I was wondering whether anyone knew or knows how to calculate how much torque the F&P smartdrive motors will produce at different RPM ?

(bit of background may help too)

We're building a gearing system to enable us to spin the motor at higher speeds, but need to know these torque figures in order to work out our ratios etc..

thank you

What are You are planning to do ?.

Details to be able to give an opinion.

The motor has a maximum of 1500 RPM, as I was informed a few years back.

I would like to know where to buy a F&P Motor. Can anyone tell me of a source that is in the USA? I have found one in Australia but the shipping is $100.

Are you asking what torque it will produce as a motor as implied in the question or are you wanting to know what torque is needed to turn it as an alternator?

If you want the required torque to turn it as an alternator you can work it out from the expected power out, rpm and efficiency.

Choose a reasonable power curve for your prop, assume the power into it will be about twice what you expect out and calculate torque from power and rotational speed, remembering to increase the prop input torque in relation to the speed increase. Cogging torque will be multiplied buy gear ratio so bear that in mind at starting.

I emailed Randy's Workshop last Friday but no response. I guess I will try again. He has a great site and his conversion of the F&P is superb. I just wish I could get him to take some of my money.
