Speaking of SW-403/AIR-X 403.
« on: December 13, 2006, 03:20:55 AM »
My 403 has been flying on my store roof for about 4 years. During that 4 years I bet its collect about 2 days worth of power.

It sits idel alot or when it storms it gets real noisy. Thats why its on my store roof. Its way to noisy where I live. My neighbors were forming a linch mob.

Its a 48 volt machine. I'm going to put a set of my 49" Jerry blades on it and add a bigger tail to it. I'm not going to make any wireing changes but I'm now going to conect it to my 24 volt battery bank.

My blades have lower rpm but way more tourque. Should make the littel LAZY actuly do some work and not have to wait for 20 mph winds to do it. Plus the noise will be gone. Not that anyone in the industrial park cares.

It sounds like you are hoping to use it as a 24V trickle charger.  With the thinner windings, my guess is that you won't get much current, but then a little current beats none.  Rich

Keep us posted on the Jerry blades, Jerry, and how can I get a set.  I think my AirX may have actually made some juice last night, after the modifications that were made 2 days ago.  We had a pretty good wind come through last night, and this morning, the volts were up to 12. 6 to 12.7, not the usual 12.5.  Please post some pictures of the Jerry blades.  BEAR

I'll try to get some pix today. I had actuly built some TDM type gennys befor I purchased the 403 5 years ago. At that point I thought a comercial machine was the way to go but soon found out it wasn't making as much power as my TDMs and it was flying at 40 ft and my TDMs were at 25 FT and it was very noisy.

I know the power won't be at the factory specs of 400 watts at 28.8 MPH. I don't care

100 watts more of the time will be better then 350 watts 1 hr a mounth and nothing the rest of the time.

I don't care if I burn it up. I'll just rewind it and then Jerry rig it.

At this point it doesn't contribute much so expirimenting won't hurt.

Yes a bird with no Wings, it just sits there. I know of many folks who bought them from Canadian Tire in canada and seen no real power. Best of luck Jerry hope it works
