hooking up newbie
« on: January 31, 2007, 04:55:46 PM »
I am putting up a 24v generator geared 11:1 At 350 rpm it is to put out over 500 watts. I will be turning it with boast buster blades. I will be putting a low voltage dump at the batteries. The batteries are 2 volt 105 amp and i will use 6 to  make a 12v battery bank.

Do i need anything else? Maybe a diode and what kind. What size wire? The batteries will be running a 300 watt 12 volt heater for a cabin.

Have i left out anything or done something wrong?

thanks,

We'll need to know the average wind speed in your area, the length of your blades, and the amount of torque needed to start the geared gen-head.

From the wiring side, I'd recommend using a rectifier bridge instead of just a diode.

I hadn't heard of TLC Windpower before. Any body Hear anything good or bad about them. http://www.tlgwindpower.com/powerclassrotors.htm It's a big site and an interesting read. He claims 3+ years on the Alum. blades with no futige issues. Also some interesting pics of what storm driven debre will do to his blades. Mangaled to crap, but still on the hub!!!

I talked to him and seems to know his wind stuff. I got his Boost Buster Blades on order. My wind is from a breeze to 20-25. The generator is 24v  11:1 ratio going to 12v batt. bank. . Inch lbs is 90 at about 340 rpm. Hope this helps.
