Minigen II , lots of pix
« on: March 03, 2007, 08:46:03 AM »
Twas a beautiful day in New Jersey .

for all who are still suffering in the grips of winter , take heart ,spring is on the way

was mid 50's and windy enough for me to take the minigenII out for a spin.

here are some of the pix i took

this is the rest voltage as i started , the battery was free , so if ya think its shot you're probably right! in fact i'm surprized it survived without the casing cracking , because the Uninteruptable Power Supply  i got it out of was mangled by a dumpster. the thing that saved it from getting crushed was the transformer

this is the stuff i brought with me ,from top left , wind gauge , spare 12V sla battery , two 1Farad Caps in parallel, battery under charge , ammeter, volt meter , front left spare 6Volt sla.

This is a good shot of the mini gen , i changed the tail to two sanded cedar shingles and covered them with polyester resin ,came out nice .That very large building behind the trees is Monmouth U Library, this is a buddys place.

i thought the windmill might experience  turbulance , but only once did it change direction really fast and even then it was only about 75 degrees.

Eighteen and a half watts from junk ! well sort of junk ..

it was at 1.5Amps a lot , 1.7A  occationally and over 2Amps once or twice.

of course every time i had the camera ready to take a shot , i would either miss the gust or the wind would stop.

I am happy to report The VCR head is still working fine as a hub for the mini gen.

New Jersey....You mean the snows all gone there?

Here in NE Ohio (Conneaut)piles of  ice and snow

most of the roads all bare maybe a week or two....

Nice job...What are those round batteries (voltage)and the UPS?  The square one reminds

me of 2 ...4a/h 6 volt batteries that I got

from Walmart clearance sale...$2 each few years

back...every look for junk battery (ni-cad)

battery packs ....or even your own for your

cordless drill/s ?

What wind speed did you have at the time?

               Fun !

El Nino years are very favorable to new Jersey mild winter, for the most part , shhhhh its 50 degrees F out there at 10 AM (thats 10 degrees C )..

<wispering in a porky the pig voice>

Yes , the snows all gone , but be berry berry quiet about it , shhhhhhh... we dont want to jinx it

who was that?

The two cylinders are the 1 Farad each caps , i purchased a little while back.

the battery under charge is the UPS battery 12V 12AH sla

the wind wasnt cooperating when taking a reading , so i gave up and just enjoyed watching it go-round.

the blades are super quiet , from ten feet away, the only thing i could hear was the three phase humm when it was charging , plus i was up wind , that might have helped.

Yeah ....I do that a lot.....

.....also gaze up at those tall steel light post

in mall parking lots...

Yes it looks like your blades would be pretty

quiet and start up in low winds with that wide

of a root.

   BTW what diameter is that?

   and we're 33F degrees W at 10mph.

Still snowy here in Chicago, a few flurries about, but it was warm enough to melt a bit of whats left when the sun came through the clouds.  Looks like you're already having a bit of spring fun out there.  Rich

Today was nice also , sunny , not as warm as yesterday though.

that snow rain line just missed us .

the pink ones are 44" tip to tip the white ones are a little less

thats because the pink foam is thicker than the white foam

but thursday we should be back up in the 40s , and by the weekend they are predicting low 50s .

and i'm sure the snow isnt done with us

there have been many a winter , in the past , when it was warmer in alaska , than it was in NJ.
