Building a turbine for a friend in Alaska.  Does anyone know how vinyl ester holds up in -75 degree weather?

Hi

www.epoxysystems.com/vester.htm

Try looking at the above site there is a lot of data lists, most warnings seem to be on maximum temperatures but nothing on low temperatures. Another site mentioned micro cracking due to the glass strand substrate contracting, but again it did not say at what temperature that happened, and I had the impression that was in a lab not the real world.

I just put vinyl ester into a search engine and followed some of the links.

hope this helps.

Adding a filler like talc, ATH or microspheres (or all three) will toughen up the resin at the coldest extremes. Also adding some chopped fine glass or kevlar strands might help if the copper shrinkage exceeds the resins' contractions or the uneven expansion from coil heating.

Super-cold will affect bearing adjustment and lubrication - your local snowmobile crowd may have good insight on trailer hubs at those obscene temperatures!
