Wind Power Basics
« on: February 12, 2009, 07:17:18 PM »
Hi ya'll,

I'm in the "read all about it" stage of setting up a windmill.  I am so glad to find you here!!  I'm starting out with Dan Fink's 3 articles on Wind Power Basics.  Let me know if you have more recommendations.

If you read my bio, you'll see some of the reasons we're getting into this!

This site is all about "do-it-yourself", so a certain point of view prevails.  You should feel free to consider commercially available wind turbines if you're most concerned about producing electricity sometime this year.  To go that way, you can start with Homepower magazine, for example.

Back on the DIY topic, you can check out the work done by Hugh Piggott, Ed Lenz, Ghurd, the late Zubbly, (just for starters) and of course, affiliated with this site are the Otherpower windmills that you can read about by clicking on the title above.

The trouble is not a lack of things to read about!

It will take a while to fit the pieces together in your head.  Don't wait for that to happen before you start experimenting, though.

Good luck.  Welcome aboard.

No one believes the theory except the one who developed it. Everyone believes the experiment except the one who ran it.

I think it is good to read a general book about wind power. The best I know as published in English is available free in the Net. You can probably get even free power lectures on a dvd from Gary Johnson, if you'll contact him. At least I got.
