This site is all about "do-it-yourself", so a certain point of view prevails. You should feel free to consider commercially available wind turbines if you're most concerned about producing electricity sometime this year. To go that way, you can start with Homepower magazine, for example.
Back on the DIY topic, you can check out the work done by Hugh Piggott, Ed Lenz, Ghurd, the late Zubbly, (just for starters) and of course, affiliated with this site are the Otherpower windmills that you can read about by clicking on the title above.
The trouble is not a lack of things to read about!
It will take a while to fit the pieces together in your head. Don't wait for that to happen before you start experimenting, though.
