Good motor?
« on: April 24, 2009, 01:37:00 AM »
Can anyone tell me a good motor to use? I know the Ameteks are big, but I have notice people want an arm and a leg for those. Any other good motors hat are something like those but not hundreds of $$

Thanks

If you what a good high amp low rpm motor for a good price.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Ametek-type-Wind-generator-dc-servo-motor_W0QQitemZ130301248580

This is the same size motor as ametek 99v but a much better price.

  1. volt @ 350rpm
  2. amps @ 350rpm

Goodluck!

It is a decent rule-of-thumb, but nobody should spend spend $156 based on luck and "Rare".

"these motors max out at around 19 amps"

and

"All sales are final"

would make me a bit concerned.

I can not find where your 14V at 350RPM and 12A at 350RPM came from.

Physic?

Looks like spam to me.

Try this site. http://www.windstuffnow.com/main/ I got a ametek motor from him. I have 3. Great for learning. I mad a ceiling fan out of one of them. I get up to 2 amps most the time. I did see a 17 amp spike when we had A BIG STORM with very high wind. That beat my 4 amps max last year I saw. I learned that day these motors can make power if in the right wind.

Yeah...I totally agree with you on that!

This is one of the problems that I have...there is all this possibly miss leading information such as...this motor is just like the Ametek blah, blah, but no  real info.

It be nice if it were true, to have a little chart (from the manufacture)to compare the two motors.

So what would be a good motor to look for? Or things to keep in mind for a motor?

I have been there before. He's out of stock of the Ametek 38 , and I have read that the Ametek 38 is good for trickle charge.

I'v been looking around a bit more and have found a comparison of the ametek to Indiana. I guess they look like a good motor. Does anyone have any experience with them?

As fast as I can pedal( I calculate a

conservative 80 rpm=960rpm 'Ametek 30') 12 volt

NiCad reading 13 volts at the start when hooked up...

multimeter reads 15 volt charging rate and

barely 2 amps.

Hello, First let me say im not the one selling these motors. I got my numbers by spinning the motor use a digital tachometer (American made) and its produce 14v@350rpm i didnt get to go that high rpm with the shorted amp but i did get to 250rpm it was putting out 7.3amps i did both test twice. My math could be wrong what amps do you think it should put out @350rpm?

shorted amps is a sales gimmick you need to test the amps into a 12v battery for a real test that means anything..........

OK ,  here is the math, it's not tough and will let you find good electric producing motors without too much problem

Lets say you are looking at a motor that 2600 RPM at 24 volts

Now divide the RPM by the voltage, 2600 / 24 = 108.33

you will need 108.33 RPM to make 1 volt

Now multiply the 'RPM per volt' times your planned Cut-In voltage

108.33 RPM times 12 volt Cut-In voltage equals 1300 RPM

There you go, your motor will make 12 volts when it reaches 1300 RPM

A proper Flooded Lead Acid battery is not really fully charged until it reaches 14.6 volts.

108.33 RPM times 14.6 volt Full-Charge voltage equals 1582 RPM

Too doggone fast.

That should be enough to figure out for yourself which one is a good generator.
