« on: February 05, 2010, 07:49:14 AM »
my local harbor freight has about a dozen 12 volt quarter hp pm motors

marked down to 30 dollars. the label says it uses 28 amps at 1550 rpm.

would this be a canditate for wind power experiment?

Yes, if you can spin it at 1550 RPM.  For that reason it is an especially bad choice.

An 1800 RPM 90V DC motor would give you 1V for every 20 RPM, a 180V motor would need half the rpm.

If you're interested in a 1 HP GE ECM motor that you can convert easily, I have a few laying around I'm willing to part with for $50. You can make a fair amount of useable power with a decent set of blades if you have decent wind in your area.
