Wanted: 36 volt DC motor

I am looking for a 36 volt DC motor to be used in an electric ATV conversion.  I've tried the scooter-type 1000 watt motors and they just don't cut it - too weak, too fragile.  I also have a couple of golf cart motors and they are just too dang big.  I can adapt a motor from 1500 to 3600 rpm but I need it to product the useable hp at 36 volts.  Am I just chasing a dream or does anyone have anything in-between these extremes for sale?  I am open to suggestions.

Hey Got a sufestion. Check with your local metro bus maintance shop. the older buses used a 27 volt dc pm motor to run there ac fans. they are the perfect size. I have one that has a dual shaft. I'm looking for a donar bike to build a motorcycle now. they are also very easy to rebuild.
