Bridge Rectifier Cost?
« on: February 09, 2005, 08:05:31 PM »
Where is everyone finding bridge rectifiers in Canada?..I found 3 yesterday at an Electronics shop, 40 amp 27.00 each! Anyone have any automotive  numbers that would work? I see them in the states for 5 bucks each.

Use the rectifier from a junked auto alternator. Auto electricians usually have bins full of them and are usually free. They come with heat sinks which is a bonus. The rectifier from my 140A/24V alt is rated at 200amps and is quite small compared to some of the setups I've seen on this board. There is no reason why you couldn't use two or more from smaller alts to increase the amp rating if you need too.

Shadow,   Here's one supplier; Active Components 1350 Matheson Blvd. Unit 2,

                                                 Mississauga, Ont.

                                               tel; 905-238-8825

There is 3-4 different suppliers in the same strip plaza. Also lots of surplus stuff to.

I'm pretty sure this one is a 600volt- 35amp bridge rectifier, if not they do have them.

Hey pictser,

Those look like some rectifiers I got from radioshack the other day for $3.29:

http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=276-1185

I bought two of them to increase the amperage, although I actually didn't need (or expect) all that amperage, but I got the extra one just to be on the safe side.

The work great for me, I have them in some oil to prevent them from over heating, not sure how good an idea that is, but I seems to work. I use them on my homemade 20 amp AC to DC 12v battery charger. I would recommend them to anyone.

Cheers,

Stephen.
