air 303??
« on: October 07, 2005, 11:12:52 PM »
Hi all, recently i read on this board that it is possible to turn the voltage adjustment screw on an air 403 fully clockwise and bypass the internal regulator. I have an older 303 that is 24 volt and i wish to do this and use a separate charge controller to charge my 12 volt system. Does anyone know if this also will work on the 303? I am interested in using a charge controller from TLG windpower, has anyone had any experiances or knowledge of these units or a better option??? Also any comments on his aluminum blades would be appreciated ! Thanks in advance,

                                    Chester.

I dont see why the built in charge controller shouldn't work fine.  I doubt that turning it all the way up and adding a second charge controller would improve things, but I could be wrong.

Regarding Aluminum blades - I think Aluminum is not a good material for wind turbine blades.  I would expect problems with metal fatigue over time.  I also think that the blades should be thicker in some places than others.  Something made from sheet metal, thats the same thickness all over is not likely to make a good airfoil.  Thats my thought on it.  Some feel differently - I think tlg has lots of happy customers and I expect if they were having problems they'd probably say something or rectify them.  Its not the approach I'd take though.

If I ever figure out what's in the box then maybe I can think outside of it.

If you connect a 12v battery to a 24v machine the internal regulator will never operate. You can just add a 12v dump control to your battery.

I think the performance will be terrible but you may get enough for your needs. The old 303 doesn't have the mppt electronics of the later models.
