Charger / inverter plans for a newbe
« on: May 25, 2006, 07:47:53 PM »
I am new to solar power. but after the hurricane hit mississippi last year and i was without power for almost a month i decided i had better find a better way.I have built my own panels now i am looking for plans to build a charger and an inverter. I would like for the plans to be rather simple since it has been a while on my electronics. I am a rejunivated flower child just got out of the flow for awhile. Mother Earth has been good to us now it is time for us to pay up

It would probably be easier and cheaper to buy a ready build inverter to be honest.

Hi,

Whether you are a flower child or not, if you're searching for plans then google is your best friend, e.g.:

Have never built these so can't guarantee they'll work, but I intend to build the first one some day.

There are much more plans around on the net for solar chargers.

Building an inverter? You must be really ambitious. I don't think I'll bother with it. Plenty of cheap 2nd hand UPS-es around that will do the trick. Store-bought inverters are much cheaper than just buying parts for a DIY project.

There are plans on the net for simple inverters too (two big 2n3055s and a transformer), but I wouldn't connect my expensive electronics to one of these. Your situation/opinion may differ.

Like $29 can get a reasonable 400W inverter (pep-boys, vector #VEC024).

Cheaper than shipping the parts to make a crappy one.

A nice addition to the homemade panels would be a small windmill.

Could do it %100 for free. Or $100 could make a very nice windmill, given some time to scrounge parts.

Just thinking the total usable watts per day could over double with very little money.

How could I forget good old www.homepower.com; I'd definitely check out this magazine, if you're not familiar with it. Previous issue can be downloaded for free.

Just some that came up in my mind. Again, do a google search and you will be overwhelmed.

You can get some drawings, but making an inverter is probably not very easy.

Please see for example:

Not really helpful to the original poster, but I somehow managed to pick out a couple of words there  :)

Solar panels + hurricane = um.....  uh-oh.

Sorry, that hit a morbid funny bone somewhere.

You can find some inverter plans here:

I'll be posting another link I have at home that also has complete plans.

Good Luck,
