C12 as charge controller
« on: September 27, 2007, 06:20:08 PM »
Hello guys,

I was wondering if I use a Xantrex C12 as a charge controller, will it shorten the panel's output when the battery is full, or it will just disconnect the panel?

If it is shorting the panel's output, does it mean that I can also use it with a wind generator, so, I will have the generator on brake when the battery is full?

Thanks,

Speo

All C series charge controllers are PWM style that just open and close

the connection between PV and battery at hundred Hz frequencies

when used in the normal PV charger mode.

Normal PV mode, meaning NOT diversion mode, which PWMs a

load across the battery to regulate voltage.

Thanks for the answer boB.

In this case I can't use C12 with a wind generator because it doesn't have a load diversion, but I can use it in the load control mode to protect the battery for discharging too much, and also use a C35 in the diversion mode, to charge the battery.

Do I really need two units, one to control the battery charging and one to control the battery load?

Thanks,
