I need a new charge controller
« on: October 14, 2007, 09:35:32 PM »
Any suggestions?

I need at least 30 amps and wouldn't mind double that for future use. I also want a dump circuit on this one.

Primary use now is solar with a little wind and I plan on a small amount of hydro in the future.

Thanks in advance!

Kind of sparse on details like what you had before, expected dump load size and voltage.

Your right. Not enough details as usual. Previous controller is irreverent. It's melted and it's twin/spare is using a reduced load.

It is a 12 volt system!

I have no idea what the dump load size will be so lets forget that and just advise on a

a 12 volt controller that's reliable and will handle between 30 and 60 amps.

Here are the manuals for C series: http://www.xantrex.com/web/id/72/p/docs/pt/25/product.asp

I am also shopping around for a C40 and I think the price is good. I never saw them brand new, in store, lower than 130USD.

I have both the Zantrex c40 and the morningstar 60, they both work just fine. My morningstar 60 quit working after 2 years, and they replaced it at no cost, so that shows they stand behind their product.

I have been looking for a charge controller too. Even though I live in the UK it would still be cheaper to buy one from these guys and ship it across the Atlantic (for $60) than to buy one at home.

Well...I didn't get my charge controller today.

I called the cheapest supplier and wasn't very happy with them. I don't like using a charge card online and when I called they told me a phone order took a few days extra because they are really busy "designing systems" and their online system was automatic.....so...

I called Wholesale Solar   http://www.wholesalesolar.com/products.folder/controller-folder/xantrexC40.html

I explained that I needed it in three days ma so it had to be shipped 2end day. No problem!

Today is day 3 and I called. They looked it up and told me that it was drop shipped but it went ground.

DAMN.....$40.00 shipping and they still sent it ground.

I got the usual apology which doesn't mean squat. What in the hell has happened to service in this country?

I have a lot of stuff shipped to me for my business. If I order something overnight, and it doesn't arrive overnight, I have received a full refund on all shipping charges, on more than one occasion.

You don't have the item yet right? Call Wholesale Solar and ask them to refund the whole shipping amount, since they screwed up. They will likely do that for you. If not, you can always refuse to sign for the package and they get to eat shipping both ways, and make no sale, instead of eating it one way and making a sale. I bet you can get free shipping out of this fiasco for your inconvenience.

Yep I would complain.  If you don't recieve what you paid for, then they owe you a refund for the difference at least.
