inverter confusion
« on: February 05, 2008, 07:48:36 AM »
Im trying to answer a question for an assignment the question is  Describe with the aid of a circuit diagram, the operation of an inverter bridge and half bridge?

I have the diagrams of both but just not sure what the difference is between the two do they produce a different type of sine wave, frequency, voltage?

The voltage is different.

Sounds as though you are out of your depth on this one.

A half bridge has 2 switches and the output is switched from rail to rail on one side about the mean voltage on the other.

A full bridge has 4 switches and both sides of the output are switched rail to rail with the result that the ac output voltage has twice the peak to peak value.

Basic waveforms are square wave but you can modify things by different switching, not going into that here.

Just in case some of that went over your head here are some Google results for "bridge rectifier"

Hi: You might try and Google "full wave rectifier" and "half wave rectifier". I do not think you will have to much trouble seeing the difference....
